The Mission
30 min

Storyline

When a hidden underwater laboratory goes quiet, the crew must apply their knowledge of ratios to find it.

The crew must compare the ratio of time to travel distances through several tunnels to find the shortest one to the secret lab. Then, the crew must evaluate the ratio of fuel to power in a grid of prototype batteries to find the best batteries to escape from the collapsed tunnel.

3-Dimensional Science

Science and Engineering Practices

Planning and Carrying Out Investigations

The crew uses data, sensors, and observations to investigate the underwater labyrinth, the missing lab, and the problems faced during the mission.

Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking

The crew applies mathematical concepts, such as ratios and calculations, to assess data, predict outcomes, and make informed decisions.

Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions

The crew devises plans, evaluates evidence, and makes decisions based on collected data to solve the mystery of the missing lab and neutralize threats.

Engaging in Argument from Evidence

The crew discusses and analyzes data, patterns, and phenomena to arrive at conclusions and make decisions during the mission.

Crosscutting Concepts

Patterns

The crew observes patterns in the underwater labyrinth and phenomena to understand the situation and make decisions during the mission.

Cause and Effect

The crew understands the cause and effect of various actions, such as detonating reactors unevenly, and how it can impact the outcome of their mission.

Disciplinary Core Ideas

ESS2: Earth’s Systems

The crew investigates the underwater labyrinth, ecosystem challenges on different planets, and interactions between organisms and the environment.
